ADDRESS DELIVERED BY HONOURABLE MINISTER FOR TOURISM, CULTURE AND CREATIVE ARTS, AT THE GRAND OPENING OF NEW CONFERENCE FACILITY AT THE LABADI BEACH HOTEL ON FRIDAY, MARCH 21ST, 2014

THE CHAIRMAN,
HONOURABLE MINISTERS OF STATE
HONOURABLE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT
MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS
NII MEI, NAA MEI
MEMBERS OF THE PRESS
DISTINGUISHED LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

I am delighted to be here for the grand opening of this new conference facility. I wish to congratulate the management and Staff of Labadi Beach Hotel for your relentless efforts in adding a new conference center as another milestone in the development of the tourism sector.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has put in place a number of strategies to accelerate the development of Tourism in the country. Again, important interventions that serve as catalysts to accelerate tourism investments to provide reasons why Ghana is the preferred tourism destination are on- going.
Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts are increasingly viewed as promoting economic growth, alleviating poverty, and creating jobs. These represent opportunities for economic diversification and income generation.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me assure you that Government would continue to play its effective role in ensuring efficient partnership between the private and public sector for the overall well-being of the economy.

Strengthening public- private partnership has been identified as key to promoting the Ghanaian tourism sector to compete effectively with other tourism led economies.

Ladies and gentlemen, my Ministry is committed to supporting genuine private initiatives and therefore invites the business community to take advantage of the friendly enabling environment we are currently enjoying to invest in the sector.

A strong commitment to public- private partnership is critical to the development of a sustainable tourism sector and I am delighted to be part of the opening ceremony of this multipurpose conference center which can seat 600 delegates. Undoubtedly, this facility would provide a peaceful ambience for customer pleasure and would be an appropriate venue for business meetings, residential conference, presentations, wedding receptions, cocktails and fashion shows.  I believe we would patronise this center to generate more funds for further expansion of this hotel, and the continued improvement of its already commendable facilities and services.

I have been informed that the hotel has built a new spa with four (4) treatment rooms and additional pool and also expanding its gym. These facilities are the perfect way to soothe the tired, overworked guest. They are also a great “reward” to help motivate the guest to exercise for good health and this will lead to an increase in productivity.

While commending, once again, the management of Labadi Beach Hotel, let me equally remind them of the need to maintain a healthy maintenance culture as they brace themselves up to win the trust of customers and also handle future, complex and unanticipated problems.

I encourage the Staff to work assiduously to continue to raise high the image of this hotel; they should be courteous in dealing with guests in order to attract more visitors to the hotel.

I thank you and God bless us all.
