GHANA PARTICIPATES IN THE 56TH UNWTO/ CAF MEETING & REGIONAL SEMINAR ON TOURISM & AIR TRANSPORT CONNECTIVITY, LUANDA, ANGOLA 28TH – 30 APRIL, 2014

Ghana participated in the 56th UNWTO/ CAF meeting and Regional Seminar on Tourism & Air Transport Connectivity in Luanda, Angola from 28th – 30 April, 2014

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare was invited as a Discussant and she presented a paper on the topic: “The Role of Governance and Resource Efficiency Management in Boosting Tourism Sector in Africa”.

 

The Hon. Minister situated her presentation within the context of good governance which she opined, is the cornerstone for any development and for that matter the development of Tourism in Africa. Furthermore, she focused on resource efficiency management as a critical factor for achieving the desired goal of boosting tourism on the continent.

 

In contextualizing the principles underpinning for good governance,the Hon Ministeridentified the key building blocks as:

 

  • Transparency and Accountability
  • Rule of Law and
  • Political Stability

 

In herpresentation, theMinisteralsolooked at theimportance of ResourceEfficiency Management, as thekey driverfortourismdevelopment in Africa.Sheopinedthatsuchresourcesincludewaterbodies, beautifullandscapes and mountains, flora and fauna, historical and cultural heritagesites, amongothers.Shemadean appeal toallparticipantstoensure that all stakeholders use these resources efficiently in their quest to promote tourism for sustainable development in Africa.

 

 

She concluded that boosting tourism and air transport connectivity in Africa to a large extent depends on good governance and resource efficiency management.

 

SIGNING OF AGREEMENT TO HOST UNWTO REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON TOURISM BRANDING AND AFRICA’S IMAGE

 

Mr. TalebRifai, the Secretary General of the United Nation World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) has confirmed that Ghana will host theUNWTO Regional Conference on Tourism Branding and Africa’s Image in Accra which is tentatively scheduled for 9th – 11th September, 2014. This was followed bya formal signing of Agreement between UNWTO and Ghana for Ghana to hosting the event in Accra.

 

After the conference hosting agreement,Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, told the press that Ghana is privileged to have the opportunity to host such an international conference.

 

The Hon. Minister accentuated the government of Ghana’s commitment to promote and develop Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts as the vehicle for economic development.She took the opportunity to invite member countries to participate in this international event that will give opportunity to UNWTO- Commission for Africa (CAF) member countries to showcase their tourism products and services as well as make the destination visible on the international tourism map.
